Changing lives one suitcase at a time

Mission

"I spent 6 years of my teenage life using trash bags to move around which no person should experience. Now I’m making sure no foster youth has to use trash to travel."

Founder - Lucretia Ray

Garbage bags are meant for trash, not to carry belongings.

We provide world class services

Many individuals in transition do not have the resource of personal luggage. We collect donations of luggage to gift to children, individuals, and families in transition. Children in foster care move more than 10 times before the age of 18 abruptly in most cases without warning, the same way they were removed from their homes.

Real stories

Don’t just take my word for it

“I remember my first experience being moved to a different foster home because It was probably the most degrading , humiliating experience.Imagine being told you're being moved to a new foster home and being handed plastic GARBAGE bags to contain your personal belongings. Garbage bags should be left to hold trash not my clothes, belongings and items of sentimental value. More often than not the bag would rip open durning the process of moving following my clothes being picked up off the street. It's a horrible undignified feeling especially whilst being vulnerable any kid should feel. Having a Suitcase would make packing, traveling, and unpacking into a new environment easier and less stressful.”

"When I was placed from home to home I struggled with carrying a garbage bag full of clothes. Especially in the winter time because I was always removed in the winter. The bag would rip and my clothes would fall out onto the snow. I felt frustrated at this time I feel like the agency can provide stable luggage for foster kids when being placed into a different home.

"I'm a throw away." Ripping open trash bags is demeaning, tiresome and tedious. Going through bags of crumbled, and balled up items takes a lot of work. We have to see what is salvageable, and it becomes overwhelming to the point our sometimes the kids get frustrated and say just throw it all away, or I'll do it later only for it to be left undone. As a trauma informed social worker we want to help our kids "unpack" with as much easy as possible. Luggage may seem minor but for us it's a major tool in the "beginning" process. Social Worker | NJ
